Reciprocal Child Support
Agreement with Australia

map_au

Example of how it works at the moment:

New Zealand

Mr Jones has to pay child support to Australia at $200.00 per month he will have to pay NZ$231.00
Mr. Black has to pay child support in New Zealand at NZ$200.00 pr month he will pay NZ$200.00

Australia

Mr. Brown has to pay child support in Australia AU$200.00 pr month he will pay AU$200.00
Mr. Smith has to pay child support to New Zealand AU$200.00 pr month he will payAU$178.00.

As you can see that the liable parent living in New Zealand pays the most in all of the four cases

That there is a difference of
$53.00 between living in New Zealand and paying to Australia or to living in Australia and paying to New Zealand
This is NOT ACCEPTABLE all liable parents should be treated the same and all pay what the assessment is, not to be disadvantaged or advantaged by exchange rates.

If New Zealand collected all child support for liable parents living in New Zealand

Example
NZ Child Support collects from Mr. Black NZ$200.00
NZ Child Support collects from Mr. Jones NZ$200.00 Flagged Australia

If Australia collected all child support for liable parents living in Australia

Australia Child Support collects from Mr. Brown AU$200.00
Australia Child Support collects from Mr. Smith AU$200.00 Flagged New Zealand

NOTE:
No liable parent has the advantage or disadvantage

If both countries flag liable parents payments owed it should not be too difficult to sort out which country had collected the most on behalf of the other and pay them the difference

This would be a lot simpler than the way it is being handled at present. prevent all the double handling of all reciprocal cases. The department handling each case would have all the details in one place. Eliminate the problems by lack of communication between the two Child Support Agencies

Would also allow liable parents to visit the Child Support Agency to resolve any problems a lot quicker than they are now.
